I haven't thought about this song in over ten years, until this morning Mixtress 9 played it on her show and suddenly I was transported right back to high school. When I taped it off of KROQ and then played it over and over. I still know every word.
If work isn't too totally insane on Thursday (which it might well be) I'm going to go spend some time with Gabriele Basilico's beautiful photos of the Bay Area currently on view at SFMOMA during my lunch break. I was really inspired by hearing him speak about them a couple weeks ago, and I'm eager to get another look.
I am also superduper excited to be seeing the Black Lips at the Great American Friday night. Their live shows are legendary. Pierced Arrows is opening, and the show starts at 9pm. Come bounce up and down with me!
And then Saturday afternoon SFMOMA continues their Emile de Antonio film series with screenings of Underground, about radical '60s group the Weathermen, and In the King of Prussia, which covers Catholic pacifist group Plowshares 8. Sam Green, director of 2002's The Weather Underground, will be introducing the films, and the first one starts at 1pm. Again, so freakin' excited!
Saturday afternoon Italian photographer Gabriele Basilico will be speaking at SFMOMA about his new exhibition (also opening Saturday) in which he deals with the changing landscape of Silicon Valley. The discussion starts at 3pm, and tickets include a gallery viewing.
Then after a brief disco nap I will be heading out to Mezzanine for a live DJ set by none other than Lady Miss Kier of Deee-Lite. Also adding to the fabulousness will be Melissa Logan (from Chicks on Speed) and Safety Scissors. If you're not doing the Edwardian thing please join me so I'm not standing there alone with my cocktail.
The weekend begins a little early this week! I'm looking forward to the KALX co-announce Thursday night that has The Entrance Band co-headlining with Mariee Sioux along with Little Wings, Lee Bob Watson, and DJ Andy Cabic of Vetiver at the Great American Music Hall. The show starts at 8pm.
Fast forward to Saturday.
Throughout January and February SFMOMA is doing a series on the work of filmmaker Emile De Antonio, starting with a double feature on Saturday of his films Point of Order and Charge and Countercharge, both about the 1954 Army-McCarthy Senate hearings. Point of Order screens at 1pm with Charge and Countercharge at 3pm, and I'll be there for both of them.

Except this tiger wasn't on a chain, and she had already killed one zoo visitor and mauled two others. I just feel heartbroken for the victims and their families and sick to my stomach about the tiger. Maybe zoos really do need to be shut down and animals left to their natural habitats. But we seem hell bent on destroying those. So incredibly sad.
